Ubisoft today put out its earnings report for the first quarter of fiscal year 2025, in which it revealed that it managed to beat its sales targets thanks in part to its games-as-a-service titles. Its sales numbers, net bookings and back catalogue net bookings all rose — specifically, it reports €290 million in net bookings, up 8.3% year-over-year and €323.5 million in sales, up 12%.

The main factor in this growth was apparently the high level of engagement from XDefiant, which launched on May 21 and accrued more than 10 million players within its first two weeks. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot called it an “encouraging start” and noted the company plans to grow the existing audience over time with a roadmap of content. Similarly, he noted the success of Rainbow Six Siege’s marketplace, which sees a steady flow of transactions, as well as Year 9 Season 1, which was “the highest grossing season in Siege’s history.”

The company anticipates €500 million in net bookings for the second quarter of the year, with Star Wars Outlaws leading the release slate for that time period. The other game getting a physical release during that time period is Monopoly 2024, with the rest of the releases being new seasons or DLC for existing games such as Skull & Bones, The Crew Motorfest and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.

Ubisoft noted that its lineup for the remainder of the year hinges on Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Star Wars: Outlaws, both of which it expressions strong hopes for. However, Ubisoft noted that Rainbow Six Mobile and The Division Resurgence are no longer expected in FY25, meaning they’re not likely to release before late 2025, assuming they release at all. It doesn’t cite any further games as being part of its release slate for FY25.

The Assassin’s Creed brand apparently saw a high degree of interest given the recent reveal of Shadows, and The Crew brand similarly saw engagement due to the launch of The Crew Motorfest. Guillemot noted that the Ubisoft Forward event in June helped drive player engagement, adding, “As we progress through FY25, all our efforts are focused on successfully launching our promising new releases and positioning them as long-lasting value drivers for Ubisoft while continuing the transformation of our organization.”
