Synology DS925+ NAS & DX525 Expansion...

Synology just unveiled its latest storage powerhouses: the DiskStation DS925+, a high-performance 4-bay NAS for professionals and businesses, and the DX525 expansion unit for seamless scalability. Here is what you need to know.

Synology DS925+ NAS & DX525 Expansion Unit Revealed

Synology has officially revealed the DiskStation DS925+ NAS and DX525 Expansion Unit—offering powerful, scalable, and high-speed storage solutions for professionals, SMBs, and branch offices.

The DiskStation DS925+ is engineered to tackle demanding workloads, offering substantial performance gains over its predecessor — including 149% faster SMB downloads, 150% faster uploads, 131% faster reads, and 150% faster writes.

According to Synology, the DS925+ will deliver a peak read speed of 522 MB/s, and a peak write speed of 565 MB/s. This performance is based on its 4 TB HDD, and dual 2.5 GbE LAN ports in Link Aggregation.

In addition to its performance, the new 4-bay model also provides high capacity and scalability. When paired with the new DX525 expansion unit, it supports up to 9 drive bays and offers up to 180 TB of raw capacity, allowing users to expand as needed—making it ideal for growing data demands.

The DS925+ is engineered as a full-featured system to deliver consistent performance and reliability with Synology hard drives. It follows a carefully curated drive compatibility framework, backed by over 7,000 hours of rigorous testing. To ensure optimal integration and long-term dependability, DSM on the DS925+ requires compatible hard drives for installation.

Synology DS925+ NAS & DX525 Expansion Unit Revealed

Powered by Synology’s DiskStation Manager (DSM), the DS925+ offers versatile features to meet diverse business data management needs.

  • Synology Drive transforms the system into a private cloud, enabling cross-platform access and site-to-site syncing for distributed teams.
  • Active Backup Suite provides comprehensive protection for Windows, Linux, and MacOS devices, virtual machines, and cloud accounts, with flexible off-site backup options.
  • Surveillance Station delivers scalable video management and offers real-time intelligent analytics to safeguard physical assets.

“The 4-bay Plus Series models inherited over one million installations and have always been among our most widely-adopted products.” said Jeffrey Huang, product manager of Synology. “Not only are they favored by professionals but also deployed by enterprises in remote and branch environments as edge servers. For this reason, we’ve designed the DS925+ to deliver business-grade performance and reliability.”

The DS925+ can be paired with the DX525 expansion unit to add 5 drive bays, expanding its maximum storage capacity from 80 TB to 180 TB. They are linked using the new USB Type C connection, which replaced the eSATA connection used in the DS923+ and DX517 pairing. The USB-C connection will provide a SATA III 6 Gb/s link speed.

Synology DS925+ & DX525 Availability

The DS925+ and DX525 expansion unit will be available starting April 23rd, 2025, through Synology’s network of partners and resellers worldwide.

Please note that Synology is enforcing a drive compatibility policy, which limits the DS925+ and DX525 to specific HDD models, and only Synology Enterprise SSD models.
