Samsung Adds new Galaxy AI Features with One UI 6.1.1

Samsung has introduced new AI-driven features in its One UI 6.1.1 update, enhancing the user experience on Galaxy devices. The update for Galaxy AI includes Portrait Studio and Sketch to Image, both leveraging artificial intelligence to provide advanced image editing capabilities. Greater Transparency in AI Content Coinciding with the release of the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Galaxy Z Fold6, Samsung’s update, based on Android 14, includes a more visible watermark for images and wallpapers generated via Galaxy AI tools. The watermark, which reads “AI-generated content” accompanied by the Galaxy AI logo, is prominently displayed on both the Galaxy Z Fold6 screens and likely on the Galaxy Z Flip6. Portrait Studio Samsung´s Portrait Studio allows the creation of various portrait styles like 3D cartoons or watercolors, utilizing cloud-based AI. It requires an internet connection and a Samsung account. The avatars produced can be saved in formats such as JPG, HEIC, BMP, and PNG, as long as they do not have transparent backgrounds. The output is resized to a maximum of 12MP and includes a watermark indicating its AI origin.  The Sketch to Image feature, branded as Drawing assist, lets users add details to their drawings, which the AI converts into realistic graphic elements. For instance, drawing a microphone next to a cat will produce an image of a cat holding a microphone. This function supports both the S-Pen and hand-drawn sketches. AI-Generated Wallpapers Introduced with the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung’s Galaxy AI allows user-created AI wallpapers through a text prompt, similar to features in the Google Pixel 8. The watermark for AI-generated wallpapers, previously subtle, has been made larger and clearly states “AI-generated content” to enhance transparency. The size increase of the watermark is likely a response to the growing sophistication of AI image-generation tools. The enlarged watermark is not an optional feature and marks a shift towards greater transparency as AI-created content becomes more widespread. Compatibility and Upcoming Updates Samsung confirms that the new AI features will extend to older supported Galaxy devices. The initial release of One UI 6.1.1, based on Android 14, is available for the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Galaxy Z Fold6, launched during Samsung’s second Unpacked event of the year. This update is designed to enhance user experience by incorporating advanced AI tools for creativity and utility.
