Zen 7, the first (somewhat fanciful?)...

While Zen 6 hasn’t even arrived yet, a number of leakers are beginning to draw conclusions about what Zen 7 will look like. But given the timetable, we’ll have to take all this with (very) large pinches of salt, and above all, take a long, hard look at these “leaks”. Indeed, rumors point to a launch of the architecture in late 2027 or even early 2028.

Zen 7, information to be taken with a pinch of salt!

Ryzen 9000 evolutivité - Zen 7In broad terms, we learn that the number of cores could rapidly increase with the arrival of Zen 7. Indeed, the leaker Moore’s Law is Dead indicates that the processors could now reach 32 cores divided into 16-core chiplets. Similarly, a mass-market version would be offered with L3 cache integrated into the core die , while a 3D variant would have no L3 cache at all. As for the process used, we’re talking about a 1.4 nm etch from TSMC, while 3D V-Cache dies will now use a 4 nm etch. Of course, processors equipped with 3D V-Cache memory will still be in vogue, as this is the type of CPU that’s currently in vogue. The Ryzen 9 9800X3D and its predecessor, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, were the kings of gaming. There’s no reason for AMD to dispense with this technology for the next generations in Zen 6 and 7. However, and this is where we think things are a bit fanciful, is when the leaker talks about IPC gains. These would simply be colossal. Finally, we hear about a new socket with the AM6. In itself, this seems coherent insofar as the AM5 is due to last until 2027. So, if these hypothetical Zen 7s come out at the end of 2027 or even the beginning of 2028, the timetable is right for the launch of a hypothetical AM6. Of course, it’s not impossible, as is currently the case with AM4, for new AM5 CPUs to be released after 2027.
