Warner Bros. Games announced today that it has acquired Player First Games, the developers of its platform fighter MultiVersus. The studio recently relaunched the fighting game as a free-to-play title (after taking it offline for a year). The news of the acquisition comes alongside the announcement of the game’s second season, which launches on July 23.

David Haddad, Warner Bros Games president, said in a statement, “We have worked with Player First Games over several years to create and launch MultiVersus, and we are very pleased to welcome this talented team to Warner Bros. Games. The bright and creative team at Player First Games adds to our extensive development capabilities.”

According to Warner Bros., Player First will continue to operate as it has under co-founders Tony Huynh and Chris White, who serve as head of studio and head of technology, respectively. The two will report to Carlos Barbosa, VP and studio head of Warner Bros. Games San Diego.

Huynh said in a statement, “Our team is excited to join the Warner Bros. Games family, and we feel that this will be great for MultiVersus overall. We are working to make the MultiVersus game experience the best it can be and having our development team integrated with the publisher is optimum for the players.”
